Evanston, Illinois Transitions to Cloud-based Utility Billing with TrueBill from TruePoint Solutions

LOOMIS, Calif.—July 13, 2022: The City of Evanston, Illinois has gone live with TrueBill Utility Billing solution from TruePoint Solutions. The City selected TrueBill, hosted in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud environment to manage its water, sewer, and sanitation customer service and billing.

TrueBill has automated an array of functions, creating greater efficiency at every level. In addition to its expanded automation, it also allows for a high degree of transparency to give staff easy visibility into all areas within its water, sewer, and refuse services. Among the processes improved is the management of refuse containers. TrueBill provides staff with an easily accessible view, and as status changes for a given customer, it’s entered, stored, and tracked within the solution. This has pared down the time and steps needed, as field staff were previously tasked with managing refuse containers manually on paper.

The City has gained additional efficiencies with TrueBill’s configurable workspaces. TrueBill’s workspaces allow staff to display their most used menu items and functions in one perpetually visible place. This configurability is a favorite among TrueBill users, who can accomplish all or most of their most common tasks from a single screen, rather than having to constantly switch between multiple screens.

Intent on maximizing efficiency, the City of Evanston was among the first to leverage TrueBill’s new Job Companion tool, which introduces automatic procedures to tasks typically performed in batches. Job Companion equips the City to automate processes such as importing payments. TrueBill’s smart technology generates error messages for any portion of a batch with issues, so they can be corrected quickly and without delaying the full batch process. Other tasks made faster with TrueBill include final billing for customer move-in or move-out, which occurs daily, routing payments, and other complex interfaces, such as with WaterSmart, which allows customers to view their usage.

The City performs multiple types of billings, which require different billing intervals, and TrueBill was selected in part, for its ability to manage multiple, agency-defined intervals. TrueBill’s flexibility allows the City to accommodate its full range of requirements, including interfacing with the agency’s payment processor, and using TrueBill’s Review Readings tool to electronically identify meters for estimated readings and distinguish abnormally high or low readings.
