Silicon Valley City Adopts TrueBill™ to Leverage Technology to Enhance and Streamline Operations
LOOMIS, Calif.—June 3, 2022: TruePoint Solutions™, developer and provider of leading edge utility billing solutions and professional services for local government, announced the successful implementation of TrueBill™ utility billing software at the City of Redwood City, California.
The browser-based solution allows staff to access the software from any location, whether at their own desk, at a service counter, or anywhere else. The software is being used for multiple departments, to accomplish a variety of tasks. The City’s Revenue Services Department uses the billing capabilities in TrueBill for its water, sewer, and refuse billing, and the Public Works Department uses it for its meter reading processes and to manage backflow prevention device testing.
In the heart of California, which has been heavily affected by a multi-year drought, Redwood City is committed to California’s water conservation initiatives and selected TrueBill in part for its ability to support the associated tactics. The City currently uses water budget billing for its irrigation accounts, and residential customers receive a visual account of water budget amounts vs. actual usage with their regular bills. TrueBill also equips the City to use its Collection Activities functionality to assess penalties.
Additional efficiencies have been realized through TrueBill’s interface with Recology, the City’s refuse provider, which automatically records any changes to a customer’s containers, such as installation, removal, or size change. It also alerts City staff of issues that require attention.
TrueBill’s Review Readings form simplifies and speeds up the process of reviewing the readings that are imported from the City’s ITRON meter readings. As a result, the City continuously saves significant time in its meter reading processes, which were previously performed in a manual process that captured high readings but not extremely low ones and could take several hours to review readings for large routes. The backflow device testing functionality allows the City to view details within TrueBill, and includes all of the notice types needed, should it choose to send out notices associated with the testing.
The City previously performed its utility billing through its decades-old Rocket Universe Database Management System, for which support was fully maintained by City staff. Processes relied on redundant and manual data entry and required users to access multiple pages to view the status of accounts. Further reducing efficiency, navigation through the system was tedious, time-consuming, and changes were unnecessarily challenging. As a result, the City was hindered in its attempts to accomplish its initiatives.
“We are happy to provide a solution that supports the City of Redwood City in its crucial efforts to supply and maintain its water, sewer, and refuse services to its citizens,” notes Don Hunsinger, Manager of Software Development & Customer Services at TruePoint Solutions. “Especially in light of the water budgeting and conservation efforts necessitated by California’s extreme drought conditions, it’s gratifying to bring a solution that accommodates the City’s billing activities.”
